COMMAS Bible Study Outline

COMMAS Bible Studies are super-easy and super-flexible ways to structure a 1-2-1, triplet, or small group study! COMMAS stands for:

Context: What context in the book, Bible, or history do we need to know to understand what we’re reading today?

Observation: Make some observations about what you just read! What was interesting, what didn’t make sense, what was amusing, etc!

Meaning: Now work out what those observations mean! Why was that interesting, how can that make sense, why was that amusing, etc!

Main Point: See if you can distill the main idea or the main point of your passage into a singe sentence.

Application: Using the main point as your launchpad, discuss how your passage needs to change what you think, believe, and do.

Share: Write down one thing from your passage that you can share with a non-Christian friend this week, and practice now on your group.

Here’s a great resource for giving you slightly more specific COMA studies for various parts of Scripture! It’s from One to One Bible Reading by David Helm.
